Baby on Board - to France!
2006-10-23 10:17pm
France
is a wonderful holiday destination for babies because the French culture is so family-oriented. Restaurants often have well stocked baby
stations for changing diapers. Discreet breast feeding in public does not
raise eyebrows. Children and babies are an expected part of social, everyday life.
The most difficult part is getting there! We offer the following tips for traveling by plane with an infant, and some key
French phrases that might
help you during your stay.
First of all, many parents wonder a) does baby need a passport, and b) does
she need her own seat on the plane? Yes, everyone traveling abroad
needs a passport, even babies. read more
Halloween in France, Ooooooo Scary!
2006-10-18 9:06pm
Halloween originated among the Celts in Ireland, Britain and (yes!)
France
as a pagan Celtic harvest festival. Although other nations continued to observe
Halloween throughout the centuries, the original pagan traditions of the
Brittany region faded into obscurity long ago. Until recently, the mention
of Halloween in Paris was quite rare. Parisian children may have
heard of the holiday through foreign visitors or expatriates, but for the most part,
they never carved pumpkins, dressed up in ghoulish costumes or
went 'trick or treating'.
This has changed. Today, partly due to commercialism and the spread of
American pop culture, the delightfully spooky holiday has seen a resurgence in
French popularity. More and more cafes and bars are celebrating it American-style. Teens
swarm McDonald's (the iconic emblem of all things American) on Hallow's Eve, and
Disneyland Paris is also a cool place to be come October 31st. read more
Premium Economy - A New Class
2006-9-14 9:43pm
Because of budgetary constrains, today's economy class seating sometimes
feels a little inadequate. To address this, most airlines are now offering an
interesting new seating class called 'premium
economy'. Premium economy seats are one step above coach yet not quite as
ritzy as business class seats. Generally, a premium economy ticket buys you a bit more
legroom and a few extra perks such as priority check-in and/or additional
storage space. The fares vary greatly. In some cases, you pay under
$65 per extra inch of wriggle-room for your toes, whereas other airlines raise
the price so close to business class it leaves you tempted to make the jump.
Some airlines, such as United, require you to purchase a yearly membership which enables you
to book "premium economy" seating at the time of reservation. read more

Men's Clothing Size Conversions (USA, France & UK)
2006-6-06 6:38pm
Basic Apparel
Unlike women's sizes, men's sizes are far more consistent because they
reflect the actual dimensions of various body parts in inches or
centimeters. For instance, the first number in men's shirt sizes is
always the circumference of the neck, with the second number being the
length of the sleeve. In pants, the first number is the dimension
of the waist, with the second number being the length of the
inseam. Men's coats are measured according to chest size,
measuring under the arms. As long as you know the exact
measurements of the person you are outfitting, it is difficult to go
wrong in men's sizes, however, as always be sure to try things on when
possible. We offer the following charts as basic guidelines only. |

France Event: Fête de la musique on June 21st
2006-6-03 4:44am
Since 1982, the "Fête de la musique" (Fiesta of music) has been taking place
every year in France. This is not surprising since it is fun, free and exciting.
Basically anyone that can play music is invited to do so, for free, any place
they wish. The participants will range from amateur to professional or even
major celebrities. Every style of music is welcome and will be heard. Musicians will perform
everywhere: cafes, street corners, public buildings and more. Generally they are
invited to play in open space. In other words, on this day you might hear on
street corners highly acclaimed musicians who usually perform at the opera.
The event's original motto was "sharing, diversity and creativity". Today, this
event still hold true to it. read more

Tour the attraction most Parisian never visited: The Catacombs
2006-2-03 2:05am
Most Parisians, I know, never visited the Catacombs (spelled Catacombes in
French). I never did when I lived there. I finally visited them and I have to
say it is truly unique. I recommend strongly touring the Catacombs.
This is one of the rare tourist attractions in Paris, where for just a few
seconds you wonder if engineers have studied the place. They must..right...
A brief history:
The origin starts at the end of the XVIII century. After being used for 10 centuries the cemetery of the "Innocents" was starting to become a
health hazard in this Paris neighborhood.
