The life style and colour of the French Riviera

Verdon Gorge

2006-9-21 3:28pm

Popped up to the Verdon gorge last week with my sister Pat, it's about a two hour drive so our trip meant a long lunch in a small village resto as our reward.
The Verdon Gorge is a river canyon that is considered by many to be Europe's most beautiful. It was formed by the Verdon river, which is named after its startling turquoise-green colour.

Friday market in Italy

2006-9-08 9:58pm

About 90 minutes from Sainte Maxime is the Italian town of Ventimiglia. Twice a week they hold a massive market where you can buy anything from fake Rolex watches to the latest fashion items. Personally I like a bit of cheese.

Take aim and fire

I'ts amazing the things you see when you havn't got a gun!!!!!

Shoot us, you have my permission

2006-9-05 10:33pm

I truly believe that people should wear what ever they please. In saying that if ever you see my wife and I wearing gear like this..................shoot us!!!
This photo was taken in Cannes.

Sauf autorisation

2006-9-04 12:24pm

Andrew is now back at school in Monaco so today I thought I would show you a photo of the Monte Carlo casino. I didn't go in however as the sign says ' you can't enter without permission' and as Michele wasn't there I couldn't ask her!!!

Proud parents

2006-9-02 9:16am

Andrew our youngest son got back from the -16's European basketball championships last week; he had been away for nearly a month which included 10 days in England and 15 days in Estonia. The England team finished 8th (out of 16) with Andrew being the overall leading scorer in the squad. He is now back with his club team preparing for the up and coming season.
NB: Andrew is the one dressed all in white on the left hand side of the picture and for the basketball fans out there he is 6 foot 3 and his position is number 2 guard.

Theme day - Doors

2006-9-01 10:11am

It must be great to come home, grab a fresh lemon, slice it up and drop into your favourite drink. Just perfect.

Topless summer

2006-8-29 9:22pm

It's time for the topless photo. I apologise if I offend anyone but the Sainte Maxime daily photo summer blog would not be complete without at least one photo of a topless girl.
I myself close my eyes and am totally offended when beautiful young sun kissed ladies bare all on the beach, especially when I am accompanied by my wife Michele and our three expensive kids!!!!!!!!

Drink on the beach anyone?

2006-8-26 9:01pm

Sorry I can only offer you beer or mineral water, it's nice and chilled though!

Wow

2006-8-25 1:37pm

Boy, I enjoyed that siesta. Anyway on the way back from the Sainte Croix lake the views from the road are fantastic. If you into rock climbing and hiking this is the place to come to and hopefully survive. Have a good weekend everybody.

Sainte Croix lake

2006-8-07 1:29pm

About 90 minutes drive North of Sainte Maxime towards the Alps is the Sainte Croix lake. This is one great place if you want to have a picnic and get away from the crowds on the coast. This is exactly what we did yesterday, the snooze in the shade and swimming in the clear fresh water were optional. Just perfect.

PS Lady was in her element:)

It rained last night

2006-8-06 10:00am

Can you belive it we had rain yesterday evening! This basically means I follow my wife around pretending to look interested in shop windows. She does have a classy umbrella though.

Evening swim

2006-8-04 9:41pm

Sometimes the best things in life are free. Like a swim in the sea before dinner, have a good weekend everybody.

Corner shop

2006-8-03 9:55pm

Isn't this corner shop great? Fresh pasta, olives and fantastic cheeses you will find it all here. That's it I'm going downstairs for a snack!

Classic mini Moke

2006-8-02 7:57pm

What a better way of zipping around the narrow streets of the Riviera then in a classic mini Moke. I love the colour of this one and I especially like the crash bars on the front which can be very useful for knocking the occasional tourist out of the way. Only joking!!!!

Typical evening scene

2006-7-31 9:36pm

Sorry about the quality of this photo but I wanted to show you a typical evening scene here on the Riviera. The time is 11pm and the place is Sanary sur Mer which is about 75minutes drive down the coast from Sainte Maxime. The 'promenade' is full of people strolling along and just simply enjoying the barmy evening. This scene can be found up and down the coast in towns and villages alike and is something that I would really miss if ever we moved away from this part of the world.

Handcuffed

2006-7-27 9:54pm

Apparently these two young boys were arrested for stealing a small Zodiac dingy. Not exactly a major drug bust, but hey theft is theft! Click here to see the stolen dingy

Ice cream just beep

2006-7-26 9:46pm

OK, so you are out messing about on a boat and suddenly you get a craving for ice cream what do you do? Beep your horn of course, and lone behold there it is! Not only ice cream but soft drinks, coffee and even sandwiches.

It's a shame they don't sell anything for sunburn, I'm burning up tonight.

Gendamerie Nationale - Grimaud

2006-7-23 10:25pm

I can only imagine they have shut up shop and all gone on holiday or it's siesta time!. Joking apart this is the old Grimaud Gendamerie Nationale premises and I'm sure you will agree it is a lovely old building.

French Hells Angels

2006-7-21 4:50pm

Even Hells Angels need a holiday. I snapped this photo by pure chance as these two French Hells Angels left a restaurant in Sainte Maxime after what looked like a pretty liquid lunch.

Our dog 'Lady'

2006-7-20 9:16pm

What do you do when you wear a fur coat during a heat wave? You go for a swim in a fountain of course! This is what our dog lady does at every opportunity, I swear she's going to get me arrested:)

Really cute

2006-7-17 4:13pm

First of all apologies for not posting over the weekend but life has been really hectic.

I love roof gardens and balconies, maybe it's because I like looking down on people, oops, that didn't sound right. Well you know what I mean:) I thought this town house balcony looked really cute so I thought I would share it with you.

Skate boarding

2006-7-14 11:59am

You can see there is a bit of a sport theme going on here at the moment. I know its the 14th and all that so I will try to get something a bit French tonight! Anyway I love this pic, I took it during the week at the skateboard park just outside Sainte Maxime. I think it's so cool seeing kids doing sports rather then sitting in front of the TV or on the play station, don't you?

The winner of the funny caption competition was Rodney from Aliso Viejo Daily Photo to see the caption click here.

Funny caption of the week - 12th of July 2006

2006-7-11 10:04pm

Summer love or lust I'm not sure. So when you have boys on the beach that are strutting their stuff and girls that are easy on the eye things are going to happen. So what's your caption?
Just to remind you the winner receives a Sainte Maxime post card sent by Moi meme.
The winner of last weeks funny caption competition was Dutchie from Rotterdam DP. Check out her winning caption here.

The feel good factor

2006-7-11 6:13am

Well done to Italy in winning the 2006 world cup and well done to Zidane for winning the golden boot, he is with out doubt one of the greatest footballers of all times.
The world cup is more then just about a bunch of men kicking a football around a pitch, it's about national identity, unity and hope. Winning or playing well in the world cup can uplift the mood of a country, strengthen its resolve and give a boost to it's economy.
Anyone who has had the chance of being in a country at a time when that country has won a world cup will bear witness to this fact. Never under estimate the 'feel good factor,' football is just not a game.
This photo is of the Sainte Maxime stadium which was used by several national teams in the warm to the 1998 world cup.

On a lighter note it's the Sainte Maxime DP funny caption competition tomorrow so if you fancy a laugh pop on by:)
